什么是动词重叠？What is Verb Reduplication?
动词重叠表示动作时间短暂、反复次数少，或者尝试做某件事，语气轻松随意，也可以表示礼貌委婉。 Verb reduplication indicates a brief, relaxed, or exploratory action. It conveys a light, casual tone and can soften a request to sound more polite.

In AA, the second syllable is often unstressed. ABAB is for 2-syllable verbs. AAB is for separable verbs only.

Repeat a monosyllabic verb. The second syllable is usually unstressed (neutral tone).

语法禁忌 Grammar Rules — 4 Prohibitions
禁忌 1：不能带补语
Cannot take a complement. Reduplication already implies brief action, making a complement redundant.

Just use the verb + complement directly.
禁忌 2：不能作定语
Cannot be used as an attributive (modifier before a noun).

The object must be definite. A numeral classifier phrase in front of a reduplicated verb is ungrammatical.

Use a definite reference like 这 (this).
禁忌 4：不能与"正在""一直""总是"连用
Cannot co-occur with ongoing/habitual adverbs like 正在, 一直, 总是. These contradict the "brief" meaning of reduplication.
